Volkswagen teases Taigun facelift ahead of April 9 launch: Here’s what to expect
Volkswagen is set to introduce a mid-cycle update for the Volkswagen Taigun this week, as the carmaker looks to regain ground in India’s highly competitive mid-size SUV segment. The facelift comes at a time when the category, currently led by the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos, has seen rapid feature escalation, increased localisation, and a clear shift toward technology- and efficiency-led buying decisions.
Exterior changes are likely to be incremental, including revised LED lighting signatures, updated bumpers, new alloy wheel designs as well as potentially introducing a panoramic sunroof and even a rear seat massage function on higher variants. At the same time, Volkswagen could improve value at the lower end of the range by offering essentials such as a single-pane sunroof and a rear washer and wiper as standard from the base trims.
The more significant updates are expected inside the cabin, where Volkswagen is likely to introduce a larger infotainment interface, an updated digital instrument cluster, and additional comfort features such as a panoramic sunroof and enhanced ambient lighting.
On the powertrain front, the Volkswagen Taigun is expected to largely retain its existing engine lineup. The 1.0-litre TSI petrol motor, producing 115hp, will likely continue with a 6-speed manual transmission, although the current 6-speed automatic could be replaced by a newer 8-speed unit. The more powerful 1.5-litre TSI engine, rated at 150hp, is expected to be carried over with both the 6-speed manual and the 7-speed dual-clutch automatic options. Notably, the manual gearbox is presently absent on the Skoda Kushaq 1.5 TSI lineup, making its continuation here significant.
Efficiency improvements are also anticipated as part of the update. Skoda has already indicated better fuel economy figures for the Kushaq facelift, and similar gains are likely for the Taigun. At present, the Taigun delivers a claimed fuel efficiency in the range of 18.15kpl to 19.87kpl, depending on the powertrain configuration.
The Volkswagen Taigun entered the Indian market in September 2021, marking a key milestone in Volkswagen’s India 2.0 strategy. Developed on the MQB-A0-IN platform with a high level of localisation, the model was positioned to compete squarely in the mid-size SUV segment. Since launch, pricing has been periodically revised in line with feature updates and regulatory changes, and it currently spans roughly ₹10.6 lakh to ₹19.2 lakh (ex-showroom), placing it among the core contenders in its category.
A look at its recent sales performance highlights the challenges it faces amid intensifying competition. Volumes over the past six months show inconsistency, with a brief festive-season uptick followed by a noticeable decline at the start of 2026.
The data indicates that while the Taigun benefited from seasonal demand towards the end of 2025, volumes dropped sharply in the new year, reflecting both a cooling demand cycle and increasing pressure from feature-rich and hybrid-equipped rivals in the segment.

With new plan, Delhi may see less polluted winter
The Delhi government’s Air Pollution Mitigation Action Plan 2026, announced Friday, should offer real hope to long-suffering Delhi-NCR citizens, not just because this iteration appears to be based on atmospheric science, targeting critical, multi-sectoral sources of pollution, but also because it has been announced — in a historical first — well ahead of north India’s high-pollution winter season, thus allowing enough runway for implementation and enforcement. The critical missing piece, however, is the Delhi government’s silence on firecrackers. Without a complete ban, at least from October to March, Delhi’s winter pollution peaks are unlikely to see a significant fall. But the 2026 plan is better than any previous plan, provided that the government follows through urgently, restoring some modicum of accountability — and belief — in the system. It will also, of course, need public cooperation.
